Sign Worker Electrocuted

August 5, 2005

A man was electrocuted while working on an illuminated sign, a spokesman for the Lakeland Police Department said.

David James Aycock, 45, of 4104 Lado Drive, Zephyrhills, was working on the sign at Spec's Music, 4220 S. Florida Ave., said police Sgt. Gary Gross. Aycock and a co-worker from Dixie Signs in Lakeland were on the roof of the building about 11:30 a.m. Aycock had worked for Dixie Signs about five years and 'has been in the business 25 years,' Gross said.

Aycock either fell into a 7-foot well behind the sign or was working in it when he was shocked. Lakeland Fire Department equipment was brought to the scene to get him out, Gross said.
