Five-story Fall Seriously Injures Roofer

A roofer fell five stories when the platform he was standing on collapsed. Joseph Colton, 44, of Largo was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with serious injuries, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

The accident occurred after Colton and another man had moved the platform to work on another part of Dolphin Reef Condominiums, 2504 Gulf Boulevard in Indian Rocks Beach, authorities said. Both men were wearing safety harnesses, but Colton's was not attached to a safety cable. He fell and part of the platform fell on him. The other man, who was not injured, dangled from his safety line until rescuers arrived. A resident of the condominiums saw Colton fall about 3 p.m. and called 911.
