Woman Dies After Debris From Truck Falls On Van

January 18, 2006

A woman died Wednesday afternoon, December 14, after debris from a truck that had overturned on an overpass to the turnpike fell onto her mini-van on I-595.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tractor-trailer carrying Hurricane Wilma debris overturned on the Turnpike ramp, spilling debris onto eastbound I-595 below the ramp.

The debris hit a minivan traveling on I-595, killing the van's driver, Jennifer Green, 49, of Margate.

Officials say that three other cars and another tractor-trailer were also hit with debris.

According to eyewitnesses, Ms. Green was smothered by the debris. All the debris just went through the windshield and the roof of her van and pretty much crushed her.

From the preliminary investigation, Roger Reyes Lieutenant of Florida Highway Patrol said that the driver of the 18-wheeler lost control of his load and the truck overturned.

Authorities said they are conducting a thorough investigation and that charges are pending.
