SUV Crashes Into House, Two Injured
An unidentified man is in critical condition, and a Lehigh Acres resident who was riding with him is in serious condition, after the SUV they were riding in crashed into the side of a house.
The driver was headed east on Elkcam Boulevard near Venice at a high rate of speed, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. When he approached the intersection of Midway Boulevard, he went across Midway and entered Burkhart Drive, but was unable to make the curve. The Toyota Sequoia he was driving went into the yard of 21108 Burkhart, where it struck the northwest corner of the house, according to the report.
The driver was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. The passenger, Ashlee F. Vannote, 16, of 2904 E. 6th St. in Lehigh Acres, was taken to Fawcett Memorial Hospital. She was wearing her seat belt; the driver wasn't, authorities said.
