Motorcycle Accidents Kill 1, Injure 2

January 31, 2006

One person died and two others were injured Tuesday evening after two unrelated motorcycle accidents, officials said.

At about 6:15 p.m., a motorcycle headed south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beltway in DeLand collided with a vehicle attempting to turn left from the beltway onto Taylor Road, DeLand police Lt. Jack Waples said.

EVAC Ambulance workers pronounced the motorcycle driver, who had been wearing a helmet, dead at the site of the crash, spokesman Mark O'Keefe said.

A female who had been in the car was later transported to a hospital, but no one else was seriously injured in the crash, officials said.

About two hours later, an off-duty Daytona Beach police officer was taken to a hospital after a crash on Interstate 95, near mile marker 273, O'Keefe said.

The officer, who was in uniform and riding a city bike, had minor injures.
