Man Attacked, Bitten By Pit Bull

January 25, 2006

A pit bull attacked a man Monday night, biting his arms and back as he was trying to protect his small dog.

Michael Darda, 38, received stitches and antibiotics at Cape Coral Hospital's emergency room. Still, he went back to work Tuesday at Century 21 Sunbelt Realty.

The pit bull is owned by Cape resident Nera Moisa of 106 S.W. 59th St., police reported. A message left on Moisa's phone wasn't returned Tuesday afternoon.

Darda and other neighbors said they hadn't seen the pit bull in the neighborhood before.

Darda said he and his wife were walking their 4-year-old miniature pinscher, Chelsea, when a man asked if they'd keep an eye out for his loose dog.

Soon after, the couple saw the dog running toward them from about 100 feet away, and Darda immediately scooped up his tiny pinscher.

The pit bull jumped and latched onto Darda's right arm. Then the dog bit Darda's left elbow, left shoulder and back.

Finally, the man looking for the dog arrived and grabbed the pit bull by its collar and pulled it off Darda.
