Beach School Bus Runs Into Apartment Building
Two public school employees were treated for minor injuries Thursday morning, December 8, when their school bus slammed into an apartment building near Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. at the rear of Bancroft Hall Apartments at Old Donation Parkway and Bayne Drive.
The special needs bus had just dropped off students at Lynnhaven Middle School when the driver, David Jiminez, 69, turned left from Bayne onto Old Donation.
Police spokeswoman Margie Long said that Mr. Jiminez lost his balance in his seat, grabbed the steering wheel to steady himself when he lost control and hit the building.
Mr. Jiminez and his assistant, Ladene Suggs, 42, were taken to the hospital for observation. Later, Mr. Jiminez was charged with reckless driving.
