Woman Killed In Waterway Accident

January 12, 2006

A Lake Worth woman was killed Friday night, November 11, when the boat she was riding in on the Intracoastal Waterway struck a channel marker and she was thrown into the water, the Sheriff's Office said.

The woman, her boyfriend and another man were in a 15-foot boat headed north on the Intracoastal about 8:30 p.m. when the accident occurred near the Ocean Inlet bridge in the Lantana-Manalapan area, Sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.

All three were thrown into the water when the boat struck the marker. A boat approached and all three victims were loaded onto the boat, Miller said. The boat took them to a nearby ramp. From there, the woman was taken to Delray Medical Center, where she later died.

The boyfriend suffered a minor injury and the other man was not injured. All three were in their early 20s, Miller said.

The Sheriff's Office's marine unit is investigating the accident, Miller said.
