Cyclist Killed In Cape Coral Accident

Cape Coral police investigated a traffic crash Saturday that left a bicyclist dead and a driver possibly facing charges.

The victim, Jon Eldon Bechard, 49, was pronounced dead after his bicycle was struck by a blue Chevrolet Camaro on Del Prado Boulevard near Southeast 43rd Terrace shortly before 2:45 p.m.

According to Cape Coral police Sergeant Lucy Barnes, the driver, who was being questioned at the scene, apparently continued driving northbound on Del Prado Boulevard and turned into a nearby parking lot before returning to the scene.

The Camaro, parked behind Ports of Call Travel, 4307 Del Prado Boulevard, had a smashed windshield and front-end damage.

Skid marks tracked up the right northbound lane of Del Prado Boulevard between Southeast 44th Street and Southeast 43rd Terrace.
