Rush-hour Car Collision On I-75 Causes Injuries, Ties Traffic

October 24, 2005

A rush-hour crash involving four drivers on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County backed up traffic for several miles and lead to injuries, mostly minor. The wreck happened shortly after 5 p.m. south of Fruitville Road.

Luis Lopez, 27, of Rotonda West, was driving south in the center lane when he swerved left to avoid wood debris in the road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Lopez hit the brakes and was rear-ended by another driver, Daniel Muldoon, 22, of Lakeland. The impact pushed Lopez's Mercury sedan into the path of another driver, Mary Perry, 58, of Kentucky. Perry's car was then struck by a passing car driven by David Legget, 47, of Sarasota. A passenger in Lopez's car was taken to Doctors Hospital with minor injuries.
