One Killed, Two Injured In Single Car Accident
A one-car accident in Lehigh Acres claimed the life of a Plantation man, the 102nd person to die this year on Lee County roads.
Vincent Lugo, 31, of 860 N. Bel Aire Drive was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:17 p.m. accident, which occurred on Bell Boulevard a quarter-mile south of Spaulding Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A passenger, Fidel Marquez, was transported to Lee Memorial with minor injuries. The driver and one of the passengers fled the scene, FHP said.
The passenger, Inocencio Rubio, was later found trying to get treatment at Lehigh Regional Hospital and was placed under arrest on an unrelated warrant, according to authorities. The identity of the driver remains unknown.
The four men were traveling in a 1996 Honda when, for unknown reasons, it veered across the center line, overcorrected and veered back across the road, FHP reported. It then struck a road sign before spinning into the east ditch, where it struck a tree. The accident remains under investigation.
