Deputy Suffers Injuries In Traffic Accident

January 19, 2006

A Manatee County Sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries in a late-night traffic accident.

According to a sheriff's report, with a green light, Deputy Kym Bennett, 36, of Bradenton, was traveling south on 14th Street West into the intersection with 6th Avenue West late Monday night, December 12.

At the same time, William Heritage, 18, of Bradenton, was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection in the eastbound lane of 6th Avenue West.

William Heritage, according to the report, began to make a left turn despite a red light and hit Bennett's car.

Bennett's arm was injured in the accident, but the deputy was treated and released at Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Heritage received a citation for running a red light.
