A vacation of shopping, rafting and relaxing in the mountains of North Carolina ended tragically this weekend for a Bradenton family. The Lagana family was riding home in a van when a tire blew out in Lake County, sending the car into a grassy area where it overturned.
Rocco Lagana, 54, who was driving, died at the scene. His wife, Connie, daughter Joanna, 22, and sons Frankie, 15, and Joey, 10, escaped with minor injuries. Another daughter, Frannie, 24, did not make the trip. The family lives in the Palma Sola area.
Frannie Lagana said her father was somewhat of a workahaulic who found satisfaction in supporting his family. He also enjoyed swimming and tending his yard. "He was a man of few words but had a big heart," she said. He was a former employee of Manatee County who most recently worked as a computer systems analyst for Raymond James in Tampa.
