Seven people were injured in a four-car crash on the BeachLine Expressway, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Five of those hurt sustained serious injuries, and six were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. All were reported in stable condition.
The accident occurred on State Road 528, known as the BeachLine, near Dallas Boulevard about 10 a.m., shutting down traffic for almost three hours. Cynthia Childress, 31, of Orlando was driving her 2005 Isuzu box truck westbound on the expressway, close to a construction area, when traffic came to a stop. Childress looked away and missed that stop, hitting the Mazda in front of her and setting off a chain-reaction crash. She was charged with careless driving.
The driver of the Mazda, James Wilson, 17, and three passengers were from Pennsylvania. Traveling with him were Amanda Reeser, 16, Steven Jackson, 17, and Samantha Milliron, 14. All were among the seriously injured.
The two other cars involved were a 1998 Chrysler, driven by Nicolas Choko, 56, of Cocoa Beach, and a 2005 Chrysler driven by Matthew Stanzione, 43, of California. Choko and his wife, Michelle, suffered minor injuries. Donald Maze of California, who was traveling with Stanzione, also had minor injuries.
