A man was killed in a canal near his home by an alligator. The necropsy performed on the alligator that killed a North Port man didn't reveal anything unusual, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The gator's stomach was virtually empty, FWC spokesman Gary Morse said.
Kevin Albert Murray, 41, was attacked immediately after jumping into a canal July 15 behind a home on 13173 Irwin Drive in Port Charlotte. He may have startled the 12-foot, 2-inch gator when he jumped in to cool off after working in the yard, officials said. The Charlotte County Medical Examiner has not ruled on the cause of Murray's death. Murray's autopsy isn't scheduled to be complete for a week or two, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
